Dog Park

Upon further consideration, having a dog park in the sensitive grassy area where I’ve seen Mule Deer, River Otter, Beaver, Ermine and many other species of wildlife enjoying a grassy sanctuary is a terrible idea!

The river trail should be off limits to dogs. We live in the middle of a National Forest for goodness sake and there are plenty of places to walk your dog without a leash!

Outdoor Burning Consideration

Brainstorming here. Please jump in anywhere. Always looking for a compromise and a win win, rather than a corporate edict.

Burning of Yard waste in 55 gallon Burn barrel only. No open burning! All Burn barrel locations will comply with the La Pine Fire Department rules. I will attach later. Prior to receiving the local fire department permit, which is a telephone call to ensure weather conditions are satisfactory, all homeowners will notify the ARC on the day of the burn. All burning will be compete by 1300 hrs. No burning after dark. Only propane warming fires after the close of burning season. No outdoor wood fires after dark during any season unless the fire pit has been approved by both the local fire department and the ARC.

Jump in anywhere for those responsible property owners. Crooked River Ranch has runaway fires every year but they are a lot drier.

$5,000 fine to the homeowner if found to be not complying with the rules and $10,000 fine if the fire department is called for a valid reason. I’ve had both the La Pine Fire Department and the Federal Forest Fire service show up to my place, just to have them tell me, after looking at my setup, nothing wrong here! We are uncertain why someone would call? Do you have an hour? Swatting your neighbors diverts resources away from real incidents.

All warming fire locations will be approved by the ARC. No warning fires other than propane during fire season

The picture was taken at Alta Lake State Park recently, even drier than La Pine.

Is there a win win anywhere to be reached?

Rodent Population – Thanks Kermit

Ah, our savior from Camas, the self proclaimed naturalist, here to save our own snail darter. Leave the animals alone is what everyone keeps telling us over and over again at our annual meetings. Yet Kermit went through ten pounds of peanuts a week and all wild animals will live up to their food supply. Peanut shells and more rodents. Do you know people living in trailers in Prineville periodically catch the pneumonic plague from the abundance of rodents in their habitat?

I once was leaving out fresh water daily for any critters that needed some hydration. My system was tied to my Irrigation system, so everyday it was flushed and refilled. I also had a deer lick, both of which I discarded since I always take advice from professionals!

Glue traps around your house, under your workbench, etc. One glue trap can take down 3 to 5 rodents. Once wet or old, they cease to work.

Also, I don’t like to see anyone or anything suffer, other than those Rat Finks on the Board & ARC, therefore, I give them a little tap to their cranium to put them out of their misery. Just like when hunting game of any size or species. There is a difference between hunters and sportsmen.

A Sleep at the Switch! Again

I want to thank those people that had to resort to using a physical bulletin board to post their concerns regarding the invasion of weeds in our common areas! There are all types of weeds from cheat grass to Spotted Knap Weed. In the past, I guess too many years ago for people to remember, we would bring out Round Butte Seed Company to take care of our weeds being under contract with either the state or county. It was up to the Board and ARC to identify those common areas where the two aforementioned weeds exist along with many other invasive species. If your head isn’t in a shady place you take care of the weeds before they have gone to seed. It doesn’t do our members much good to maintain their properties when the common area is a literal breeding ground! We Deserve Better!

Help Our Letter and Package Carrier, Please

08-28 Update – I received a call from Cliff Bentz Office and they are looking into it!

All,

It’s been almost 6 months and our letter carrier, Josh, hasn’t been paid for two months of previous work.

The Contractor, Ameritran based in Virginia, shuttered it’s Doors overnight, leaving Josh in a bad situation and without two months of back wages!

I am asking you to please contact your US Representative or US Senator on Josh’s behalf.

Josh lost his lease on his white van and now has to use his personal car to bring you your meds and along with various point and click items from Amazon, to your neighborhood mailboxes and front porches often making 4 trips a day!

We need to take care of our own!

Please write or call today!

15 MPH, Not 25 or 30 MPH!

Please remember that our roads were not constructed to Deschutes County Specifications

Our Roads are too narrow for two vehicles to pass by each other when there are pedestrians also on the same stretch of road

Pedestrians should obey the international rule for what side of the road to walk on, which is to always be facing traffic. Bicyclists following the same path as cars

When cars approach pedestrian should walk in single file or better yet, step off on to the shoulder.

Shoulders between the asphalt bitumen and your neighbors’ property lines are about 5 feet, so you will not be trespassing while remaining safe.
